Bentonite is a clay mineral (not a rock) and is registered as a technological additive (1m558) under the subgroup binders. The quality and application of this product is determined by the smectite content (70% or 50%). Smectites have a platelet structure, which ensures high moisture binding and swelling capacity. Significant cation exchange also takes place between these platelets, therefore our sodium bentonites work particularly well as a binder of (undesirable) substances. Poortershaven regularly has its bentonites examined by the university for their binding capacity for both mycotoxins and endotoxins. Our bentonites are all sodium bentonites. The high moisture absorption capacity makes the product an excellent improver of manure consistency and has a positive effect on intestinal health.
Poortershaven has various bentonites in its range.
These bentonites (70% smectite) are used for both technological and animal physiological purposes. They are used as a pellet binder and moisture binder. The clay mineral also has a retarding effect on digestion, resulting in more solid manure and therefore drier animal bedding. As this bentonite binds undesirable substances (in particular Aflatoxin and Zearalenone), the product has a positive effect on the overall health and performance of livestock.
