Zeolite-actionine is formed by a volcanic deposit of minerals in a humid region. When volcanic ash enters water, it cools down quickly and a porous crystal structure is formed. Because of the large number of angles in the structure, the product has a high cation exchange capacity (CEC value). This high CEC value ensures that fertilisers are retained in the soil for longer, and can therefore be absorbed by the plant at a later stage. This results in reduced leaching of fertilisers, but also better utilisation of fertilisers in the period (e.g. around flowering or fruiting). The product can also be used to bind harmful substances, resulting in better absorption of other substances.
On highly permeable soils, Zeolite-actionine has a very good effect on plant growth, without significant fertiliser loss. Examples are dry sandy soils, but also sports fields and golf courses.
